Morning blush – Mount Assiniboine reflected in Og Lake.
This photo was taken in August 2009 towards the end of a 7-day backpacking trip into Mount Assiniboine Provincial Park. We camped by this lake twice; once on the way in and again on the way out. The first time was a miserable experience. The lake is surrounded by waist-high willow with not a tree in sight to escape the pouring rain. It was perhaps the only time I’ve seriously questioned why I go backpacking. But thankfully, a couple of days later the weather improved and we enjoyed the rest of the trip in sunshine. The morning we hiked out I got up early to catch the sunrise, hoping for some spectacular colours. It ended up being a much more muted, pastel-coloured sunrise, but no less peaceful and I was happy to capture the reflection of the Matterhorn of the Rockies in the perfectly calm water.
